Florida has unique waterproofing challenges and unique construction techniques. Overviewing the principles of moisture migration and bulk transport, you will discover many of the problems that manifest themselves after construction is complete. By reviewing actual photographs of building damage caused by improper design, detailing and installation of components and flashings, you will learn how to provent problems by proper practices. Moisture diagnosis using meters that measure moisture, relative humidity, dew point and pressure differences will be shown and explained including demonstration of an Infra-Red camera and Infra-Red building diagnosis. Roof and fenestration flashings along with cladding/sidings and their detailing will be discussed and details demonstrated. The installation, care and maintenance of the building envelope waterproofing system -- that "decorative dementitious finish" applied to most of our buildings (commonly referred to as "stucco") -- will be discussed in detail including the correct installation of metal lath/water barrier systems like EFIS (Exterior Insulated Finishing Systems). REalistic remediation and corrective procedures will be discussed since improper corrective procedures frequently cause more harm than they cure. This course has been carefully researched, developed and is taught by R.J. Koning and will put an end to all the misconceptions and misinterpretations surrounding these common building components. Always presented in an "open-forum" presentation style, this course includes understanding terminology, weatherproofing vs. weather barriers, whether or not "full thickness" application is rquired, fire resistance ratings, cosmetic vs. structural elements and reviews codes and standards. The subjects of workers compensation, workplace safety and business practices are also included.
