Many requests were made for this subject area, so this course has been developed to help clarify the practical applications of zero-energy and green-building practices in constructing and renovating to create "high-performance" buildings. This seminar will provide an informative overview of the most practical construction and renovation practices, including alternative technologies, to reduce energy consumption and inrease sustainable, environmentally conscious building construction projects. Recognizing key principles and construction techniques of weatherization to reduce energy consumption with an emphasis on solar thermal technologies and photovoltaic concepts will be the focus of this seminar. A review of "traditional" vs. "green" building materials will be presented and discussed. We will also review legislative and state incentives that encourage implementing and maintaining energy efficient building systems. Also included in the prseentation will be a brief overview of the LEED building assessment system and its importance in resource consumption and occupant health.
