Purpose

Using AutoCAD LT design software, this "hands-on" training workshop teaches the fundamental techniques necessary to work with computer aided drafting software. At course completion, you will leave with the ability to set up, draw, scale, dimension, and plot the structural and load bearing components of a basic building plan and shop drawing. STUDENTS ATTENDING THIS HANDS-ON WORKSHOP MUST POSSESS KEYBOARD AND MOUSE SKILLS.

DAY 1:

Topics include CAD terminology and system requirements, hands-on exercises of problem solving in sheet, height and coordinate systems, setting dimensions, selecting objects, drawing, copying, moving and trimming objects, working with fillets, chamfer, array & mirror commands and much more. Also discussed: sheet sizing and scales, working with layers, mathematics used in CAD software applications, understanding the world coordinate system, measuring and dimensioning.

DAY 2:

Using techniques from day one, students will set up a plan for structural components of building including foundation and floor plan, including load bearing details, basic roof plan and side elevations. Also discussed will be printing and printer considerations, posting work to the web and protocol for transfer of tiles. Workers compensation and workplace safety topics will also be presented this day.
